Read: Scott Pilgrim v.1-4, Bryan Lee O'Malley

Mainly, I picked up Scott Pilgrim because I know that Edgar Wright is in the process of turning this graphic novel series into a movie staring Michael Cera (Superbad, Arrested Development, Juno). The manga-esque tale centers around the eponymous 23 year old slacker, bassist of Sex Bob-omb, and the girl he falls in love with: Ramona Flowers. In order to win her heart, however, he must defeat her seven evil ex-boyfriends in battle. Chock full of irreverent humor and geeky homages to video games, comic books, and anime the story frequently breaks the fourth wall or goes off on non-sequiturs. While I found myself flipping back and forth a lot to remember who certain characters were (at times, many of them look very similar—especially the women), I still found these four volumes hilarious and entertaining. Now I just have to wait for the final two volumes to come out, with the next due in February 2009 (noooooo!).
