Read: The Graveyard Book, Neil Gaiman

A conscious homage to Rudyard Kipling’s classic, The Jungle Book, Gaiman’s YA novel is the story of a young boy adopted by the mostly dead denizens of a local graveyard after his family is murdered. While the chapters largely stand alone as vignettes about the boy—who comes to be named Nobody “Bod” Owens—there is an overarching story about the mystery of Bod’s family’s murder. The story is fun and well-written, if somewhat simplified for its target audience (I blew through it in a couple of days, and that was holding myself back).
